Robben Island
Once you have boarded the buses, you will meet your Tour Guide who will conduct the prison tour on Robben Island. As part of our integrated tour model, the Tour Guide is well-informed and familiar with the Island’s extensive 500-year-old history. The tour encompasses various significant sites such as the leprosy graveyard, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers, and the Maximum Security Prison where numerous South Africa’s freedom fighters were imprisoned for extended periods. Finally, the tour concludes with a visit to Nelson Mandela’s cell.
Day Trip
Upon arrival on the island, you will be taken on a guided tour of the prison by former political prisoners. This tour will include a visit to the cell where Nelson Mandela was held, as well as other significant areas such as the working quarry and the lime quarry where prisoners faced punishment.
Throughout the tour, your guide will provide historical commentary, sharing stories about the challenges and triumphs of the imprisoned individuals on the island.
Following the prison tour, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the museum exhibits, which showcase photographs, artwork, and various artifacts related to the island’s history.
Additionally, there is a gift shop available on the island where you can purchase souvenirs to commemorate your visit.
